Girls Act Uganda and the Youth Prevention Program (YPP) collaborated to empower young people in the Central region by providing practical, income-generating skills through hands-on training sessions to learn craft-making and baking.
The first session, led by a Girls Act leader, brought together 12 girls to learn how to make doormats and candles, while YPP conducted a training in Masaka, teaching participants how to make cakes and daddies (Ugandan doughnuts). These skill-building sessions are part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to equip young people—particularly marginalized girls—with the tools they need to overcome economic challenges.
“This training has given me a skill I never thought I could learn,” said Girls Act leader Marian Jessica. “I’m now able to make doormats and candles, and I’m excited to start selling them in my community. It feels empowering to know I can contribute to my family’s income and help other girls learn these skills too.”
