Skills for Success: How AHF Kenya Is Helping Youth Thrive

In Kenya’s Kilifi and Mombasa, many young people face barriers to practical skills training, including limited financial resources, a lack of mentorship, and little access to essential supplies like tools, fabrics, and ingredients. To bridge this gap, AHF Kenya’s Girls Act program trained 40 youth in income-generation skills, which included crocheting and preparing traditional Swahili meals and snacks.

The training has already begun to pay off. Participants have started producing and selling their creations, earning over $300 in collective profit so far. Participants reinvest their earnings to expand the quantity and variety of products, with profits shared among themselves after three months.

By equipping youth with marketable skills and opportunities to earn, this initiative is helping them build sustainable livelihoods and take meaningful steps toward breaking the cycle of poverty.
