At the “Girls Taking the Lead” Summit, organized by Girl Rising, young voices played a critical role in shaping the conversation—including Karen Mayely del Carmen Cruz Lima, an 18-year-old member of the Girls Act Guatemala Youth Advisory Board. As a youth representative on the girls and adolescents panel, Karen shared her perspective, helping ensure that the experiences of young women were heard.
Throughout the panel, participants highlighted the need for safe spaces that support their development, greater access to education, and more opportunities for participation. The discussion also underscored the urgency of preventing violence, with girls and young women calling on institutions and leaders to include them in decisions that affect their lives.
Karen’s participation helped amplify the perspectives of young women in the Girls Act program, reinforcing the value of youth leadership. By creating spaces where youth can express themselves freely, share concerns, and propose solutions, we empower the next generation of changemakers.
