The 2024 Mandela Day theme, Joining Hands, Connecting Communities, inspired AHF South Africa to engage with the next generation of leaders at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital (PMMH). Together with Girls Act participants, AHF educated patients and caregivers in the Pediatric Outpatient Department, the HIV Pediatric Ward, and the Multi-drug Resistant TB Ward on the importance of childhood nutrition, sustainable gardening, and breastfeeding.
Observed annually on July 18, International Mandela Day honors Nelson Mandela’s legacy by encouraging individuals and organizations to take action for positive change. This outreach not only provided vital information but also allowed Girls Act participants to engage in leadership values through music and dance performances, bringing joy to caregivers and children.
To further support families, AHF’s Food for Health and Girls Act programs donated garden starter packs, food supplies, fruits, vegetables, and toys. These contributions, aimed at bringing immediate and long-term support, helped brighten the lives of children and families at PMMH.
